Excellent study guide, accurate sample questions September 7, 2007 Ben Greenberg 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
This is an excellent study guide for the Security+ exam. The sample questions on the CD are almost exactly what is on the real exam, in fact I actually found one question that was identical verbatim to what was on the CD. I think going through the chapter exams and reading on the subjects you miss questions on is the best way to study for the Security+ which is a fairly tough exam. This is the only resource I used and I got an 885/900. You will not be disappointed with this book and especially not with the CD which is worth the price by itself thanks to its excellent sample tests.
Best Security+ book June 4, 2007 William L. Calderwood (San Diego, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book became my primary reference for studying for the Security+ certification. It is superior to the other two Security+ books I used in studying. There were a few errors (for ex. you really can't demodulate WiFi with a PC sound card) which I submitted to the publisher - I'm still waiting any form of acknowledgement. The included test question programs on CD were very useful - particularly the Palm flashcards. Bottom line I comfortably passed the exam, but I'd recommend augmenting your study with secondary resources to ensure relevant points are driven home. I would recommend this book for aspiring Security+ professionals.
Great book, but you will need complementary materials to get certified March 4, 2009 Oscar Tejada (Valencia, Venezuela) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The book is built on a clean language, the ideas are well organized inside each chapter, but you could perceive that chapters themselves are not in the optimal order...Sometimes you have to jump from one chapter to another to cover completely an idea exposed in this book.
On the other hand, you will have to buy additional simulations and practice questions to complete your preparation, because this book does not offer you practice questions with the appropiate level of complexity compared to the real exam.
Good Preparation March 20, 2007 Paul Ashman (Adelaide, Australia) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book was the primary training guide I used to prepare for the Security+ Exam which I successfuly passed. The most valuable features of this book for me were; the electronic version of the book, i was able to carry it with me and read wherever I could gain access to a computer; the 500+ practice questions that come with the deluxe version gave me an accurate expectation for the exam.
The Security+ exam is an entry level certifcation for security, however, it does assume knowlege in both Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems. This book does also.
In my experience the book was a good fit to the exam.
I liked the flash cards.... January 16, 2009 Stephen C. Rea (greensboro.nc.usa) This book does a pretty good job of giving you definitions of terms you will find on the Securit+ exam. It also includes a good set of flash cards you can use to help prepare for this test.
CompTIA exams are very much definition based it seems and with some experience in the field this book will be both a good supplement to you knowledge for the exam and a nice quick reference guide after you've taken the Security+
I teach the Security+ classes among others and I recommend this guide to all my students.
